Who are we?
We are Davidson College's only all-female a cappella group.
How did we start and where are we now?
The Delilahs was founded in 1998 by five students. Since then, the group has increased size and level of ability. The Delilahs has remained a student run organization, with all of the business and music duties being fulfilled by its members. Although we have elected positions (such as Music Director and Business Manager), every member’s voice carries weight in any decision. Each year, typically in the fall, auditions are held, and the new members are selected by group consensus based upon musical proficiency, personality, and present needs. Although our size varies, we try to keep the group between 10-16 girls at all times.
When do we sing?
The group rehearses twice a week for a total of 4 hours; we also have a retreat once a semester not only to learn new music but also to bond as a group. We perform at events on campus and in the community, including: Parent’s Weekend, Junior Day, Decision and Discover Davidson, Reading Day Eve Concert, Bosom Buddies, class reunions, and our own separate concert each semester. In addition, we frequently host touring a cappella groups from other colleges such as Bowdoin Meddiebempsters, UNC Clefhangers, Williams Euphoria, and Haverford S-Chords. Finally, we have recorded five CDs: Falling into Place, 2001; Head over Heels, 2004; Kickin’ Off our Heels, 2006; Davidson Delilahs, 2008; and Small Town, Big Voices, 2011!
